❓ Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get started?
Simply tap "Start Calculation" on the home screen and follow the step-by-step flow. BoxIQ will guide you through selecting your activity type, player count, configuration, age group, and intensity level.
What is Real Playing Area (RPA)?
RPA is a methodology for calculating training area dimensions based on real-world field testing with elite youth academies. Unlike academic formulas, RPA uses a base constant of 46.0 square yards per player, calibrated from actual coaching sessions.
Why are the dimensions different for Transition vs Possession?
Transition activities use rectangular fields with golden ratio proportions (1.618:1) to emphasize length and counter-attacking space. Possession activities use square grids to encourage quick ball circulation and technical execution.
What age groups are supported?
BoxIQ supports all age groups from U6-U8 through Senior level, with scientifically calibrated scaling factors:
- U6-U8: 0.525x multiplier
- U9-U11: 0.650x multiplier
- U12-U14: 0.775x multiplier
- U15-U17: 0.900x multiplier
- U18-U21: 1.000x multiplier
- Senior: 1.099x multiplier
How do neutral players affect the calculation?
If neutral players are positioned Inside the grid, they're included in the area calculation (larger space). If positioned Outside as bumpers, they don't affect grid size but provide support play.
Can I save my calculations?
BoxIQ automatically saves your last calculation settings locally on your device. When you open the app, you can quickly recalculate using previous settings or start fresh.
Does BoxIQ work offline?
Yes! All calculations are performed locally on your device. BoxIQ does not require an internet connection to function.
What training intensities are available?
- Small (High Intensity): Compact spaces for pressing and high-tempo play
- Medium (Balanced Intensity): Standard spacing for technical development
- Large (Low Intensity): Expanded areas for possession and positional play

📚 Calculation Methodology
BoxIQ uses the following formula:
Grid Size = √(Players × RPA_BASE × Age_Multiplier × Intensity_Multiplier)
Where:
RPA_BASE = 46.0square yards per playerAge_Multiplierranges from 0.525 to 1.099Intensity_Multiplierranges from 1.0 to 1.5
This methodology is based on field-tested experience from UEFA Pro coaching with elite youth academies, not academic research.
